Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan

For those of you who have never heard of Gravelbourg, its about 2 hours west of Regina and apparently gets snow at the end of April too! The enthusiasm of their painters more than made up for the weather – thank heaven we paint indoors.

We started off the weekend with “Maple Syrup”. The background was  created with a collage of vintage seed catalog images and then image  transfered to the plain canvas. On top of that, we added another image  transfer of the sap buckets. Since image transfers are transparent, you can  see the background image through the buckets where the color is light!  Very interesting background. After that came the little glass jar and then  the leaves.

Next, came Le Chat Noir (the poster is an image transfer!). The  background is Texture Paste mixed with Charcoal paint to create a very  dark background. The colors are then applied in layers from dark to light  using a light-handed dry brush method.

The last piece we did was the Piped Rose. The pattern is transferred to the canvas and then all of the pattern lines are piped with slightly thinned Texture Paste – amazing stuff! It gives the pieces a real 3-D look.

where’d the weekend go…………. Thanks girls, it was great!
