I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this! You have to check this out! I wonder where its going to lead us next?? Click here: DOOR
The pattern for the door is in Altered Art Vol 2 – click here to buy it
Cheryl Scott is the owner of a wonderful Craft Store in Lethbridge Alberta. If you are ever in the area, you MUST stop in.
For those of you who have never heard of Gravelbourg, its about 2 hours west of Regina and apparently gets snow at the end of April too! The enthusiasm of their painters more than made up for the weather – thank heaven we paint indoors.
We started off the weekend with “Maple Syrup”. The background was created with a collage of vintage seed catalog images and then image transfered to the plain canvas. On top of that, we added another image transfer of the sap buckets. Since image transfers are transparent, you can see the background image through the buckets where the color is light! Very interesting background. After that came the little glass jar and then the leaves.
Next, came Le Chat Noir (the poster is an image transfer!). The background is Texture Paste mixed with Charcoal paint to create a very dark background. The colors are then applied in layers from dark to light using a light-handed dry brush method.
The last piece we did was the Piped Rose. The pattern is transferred to the canvas and then all of the pattern lines are piped with slightly thinned Texture Paste – amazing stuff! It gives the pieces a real 3-D look.
where’d the weekend go…………. Thanks girls, it was great!
It is always such a treat to visit the girls in Lethbridge! If only they could do something about the weather – I mean really, it was the middle of April and it snowed 4 out of the 5 days I was there. Oh well, the atmosphere indoors was as warm and friendly as usual. We painted the large Anemones, some cute little chickadees and a street scene from Paris that one of the girls took a picture of. But the piece that generated the most excitement was the door – yes, a real door, with 6 or 7 doors painted on it – complete with hardware and all kinds of goodies. I was really hoping to have some pix to show you, but I think they are still working hard on them! Will post some when I get them
Here is a sample of some of the work the girls did.
There is a little easel that stands in the doorway holding a copy of the painting that was in the original picture. What you can do with photoshop! The canvas is 14 x 18 and we cut a hole where the doorway is to create the alcove.

Cheryl and Laura cut stencils for all the stone work and then applied the texture paste through them. What a great way to add real life texture!
Three different versions of the Anemones – the color is applied as one of the last steps as a tint. We coated the surface with retarder and then applied the sheer color – mopping to soften and control the color.
These little guys were a lot of fun to paint! We applied image transfers of the music to the background first and then put the pattern for the birds on and painted them. We added image transfers of the nests, stamped birdie type images and finally glued on some real feathers to finish it off.
New at www.lindalock.com ! I would really love it if you could send photos of your paintings that have been done from any of my designs! Just send your photo along with your name and a brief description if you’d like and I’ll showcase them in the new Gallery section of the site!
I went over to a little town on Vancouver Island to paint last weekend and of course, took a beautiful ferry ride in the process. Always enjoy that trip! Chemainus is well known for it’s fabulous murals painted on buildings throughout the town. Very pretty. Anyone coming to the west coast of Canada must take a couple of extra days and visit the island – you’ll love it!
Seminar at The Painted Pony in Ottawa, Canada

We painted these, Rembrandt’s Books and the Altered Clock. It was great painting with all you girls! And especially nice that you didn’t let it snow while I was there! Cindy, who owns the Painted Pony, put on a lovely seminar and even did all our lunches! The food was great Cindy and thanks to the many girls who brought home made goodies as well.
I didn’t do a very good job of taking pictures this time! If anyone took some they’d like to share please send them to linda@lindalock.com so that I can post them.
The pieces we painted were from Altered Art vol 5 and 6. If you’d like to see more from these books, you can find them at www.lindalock.com
Painting in southern California

We painted “I Love Snowmen”, “The Cardinal” and “The Spring Banner”. This was the first introduction to Altered Art for many of the girls and I think they thoroughly enjoyed the new experience.
I have to mention that in the Spring Banner, they had to do a large image transfer and it was the very first (and probably last) time that everyone’s transfer turned out perfectly! I have NEVER seen that before!
Roxanne (and Randy) kindly hosted our group for a yummy dinner one night after class. I really enjoyed getting to know everyone better. Also have to mention how great it was to stay at Roxanne’s house while I was there – just beautiful! thank you Roxanne!
Roxanne took me here for a little shopping and dinner after class one night. It sure isn’t hard to understand why there are as many people living in California as there are in the entire country of Canada! It is really beautiful!
What a beautiful job she did!
